Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
This page is for all the dogs that have been through the doors of Second Chance Kennels and have sadly passed away.
We will put up photos and stories here as memories to the dogs that were loved so much by us and their owners.

| Sam, who was a handsome white and black Collie mix, was chosen from the kennels about six years ago.
Charlotte and Sandra who stay in the village, had gone to Edinburgh dog and cat home and the kennels next door but they didn't click with any dog until they came into us and there he was lying in his basket as if he had been waiting for them. Sam had a few problems as he didn't have a good start in his young life, but these were all worked through and he was a very much loved dog.
Then in November last year they came back for a pal for him and again took Megan a wee scared girly, who came on leaps and bounds in their care.
Had a visit yesterday 9th April from a very distressed Sandra with the awful news that Sam had gone to the bridge on the 7th April, to say I was shocked was an understatement I could not take it in, but he was really ill and they did the best thing for Sam to stop him suffering anymore.
We were just saying anytime I used to meet them in the village he would never come to me, it was as if he thought I would take him back to the kennels poor love.
I know how cheated they all must feel as Sam was only just over six years old.
I just want to say how very sorry I am about Sam and to thank you for giving him such a lovely caring home.

| Mickey, Jason and Rocky >> |

Catherine and Lenny, who are now very good friends, have sadly in the last three years lost Mickey (under the umbrella) he was thirteen when they took him under their wing, frightened of the dark, so Catherine & Lenny left night lights on for him. Then there was Jason a lovely boy of about eleven years old , such a gentle lad, he is the mostly white boy, he left for the bridge last summer aged about thirteen, and then their beloved Rocky passed over about two weeks ago (end of March), he was eleven.
Sleep tight boy's knowing you were so loved, and are sorely missed.
To Catherine and Lenny thank you both so very much for taking "our" boy's into your home and giving them all the love and security they so needed. God bless you both x.

"It is with deepest regret that we have to inform you that Caesar died this morning at 0600hrs.
After having a Spinal stroke then being diagnosed with cancer, we are afraid his body could not take it anymore.
To say he was a great dog is a massive understatement and what a charactor, absolutely brilliant. We could not have asked for a more loving dog our only hope is that he thought the same as about us."

This lad was a big gentle giant, and we thank Ian & Lisa for giving him such a wonderful home. Our deepest condolences to all the family.
Sleep tight big lad.

Dear Ena and all,
Just a very short message as our hearts are broken. Our beautiful Max died on Tuesday from cancer. We came to your place 3 1/2 years ago to collect the white German Shepherd for Pam Walker at G.S.D. Rescue amd we kept him for ourselves. He was a wonderful character and everyone just loved him. Max was only 4 years old and this has made it so much harder to bear. He only became unwell two weeks before he died. Thought you would like to know. Keep up the great work you do. Thankfully we still have our other Shepherd, Kezi, to keep us sane.

We were lucky to get our dog from your kennels 12 years ago. A cross-collie alsation. Fantastic temprement, so loyal and playful both our baby and best friend.
Sadly on Tuesday the vet had to come to our house and stop him from suffering any more pain as the paralysis from the nerve condition he has had now reached the middle of his spine leaving him confused and frightened.
There is now a big void in all our lives as he was more than our dog he was my daughters playmate, my husbands friend and my baby.
We all miss him so much.
Thank you for allowing us to have Hamish in our lives and I know he is much happier now free from pain.

This is Hamish who was rehomed from us to his lovely family in Edinburgh on the 4th August 2003, he had an absolutely brilliant home was loved and adored, sadly he passed away on Saturday 22nd October. Our condolences to all his family and our deepest thanks for giving a special boy such a lovely home we are just so sad they had him for such a short time.

| Crag - our lovely collie boy >> |

Some of you might remember our Crag, a handsome Border Collie. He has been with us 16 months now and is just like one of our own. Sadly he did not take to everyone there were five people in his life at the kennels that he loved (we hope) Myself, Frank my husband Sandra & Gail & Laura and he also liked Catherine. We have tried him in three different homes, but he always came back after a few days. There have been a couple of incidents at the kennels the last one being Monday. So after much heart searching and with a very heavy heart, we let Crag go to the bridge today and we are all heartbroken :-(
God bless you son run free through the fields you loved, and know we did not do this lightly we did it because we loved you.
