Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
This page is for all the dogs that have been through the doors of Second Chance Kennels and have sadly passed away.
We will put up photos and stories here as memories to the dogs that were loved so much by us and their owners.

It is with heavy hearts, we have to tell everyone that our beloved Fred & Ginger have gone to the bridge. They were with us from 7th December 2007 until 15th September 2009.
These two German Shepherds came to us on 7th December having been abandoned at the Bank of Scotland near Asda in Kirkcaldy.
They were old then and such sad wee souls all bedraggled and bewildered. We went to collect them and they were brought back to the kennel, where they have stayed ever since.
They had a really good life and used to go over the field with Frank, Kirsten, John/Gemma, Morag/Adam, Moira/Liz & Catherine who just adored them and could be found when she was at the kennels round speaking and playing with them. They loved their toys so much.
Fred & Ginger also loved being brushed and used to vie for attention when one was being brushed, the other wanted brushed, it was quite funny, they were like an old married couple.
Latterly, sadly Freds legs weren't so good and Ginger had a huge growth and her legs were also quite bad, so were unable to go for the well loved walks anymore. They had, thanks to the many people who sponsored our isolation kennel, a wonderful bid enclosure with a raised double bed, a large couch(which they loved) and beds with duvets etc, they were very comfortable.
Frank & myself took the very hard decision(and it was hard I can assure you) to let them go. We did a lot of soul searching but knew it was in their best interest. It meant so much to us that their special people were there to say goodbye to them. It just let us see how much loved they both were.
We would like to thank most sincerely Claire the vet and Melissa from Equipet for their kindness and consideration to our old couple. They let them go with dignity held by the people who loved them. it was very hard and they will be sadly missed.
PAWS R.I.P a lovely team who gave our guys the dignity they so deserved.
Frank asked for them to come home together in the one casket with the inscription on their casket which says
Fred & Ginger "Together Forever"

Hi Ena,
as you know, our darling dog Benji died very suddenly on 8 July 09 aged 9 years.
We bought him from Second Chance in July 2000 as a very lively and mischievous puppy. We came that day with our adorable Rough Collie bitch Megan and it was Megan who chose Benji to join our family. It turned out to be marvellous choice.
Benji was a very handsome and placid dog who loved food, food and more food!!! He was also a great big 'sook'!!!!
We miss you Benji more than words can say. Rest in Peace and tell Mush, Shane and Megan (our previous dogs) that we miss them and will remember you all, always.

Sadly after a short sudden illness Sasha passed away on the 6th December 2008, aged 11˝ . I have tried many times to drop you a note but as you know the tears start to run and I have had to leave it.
You brought Sasha to us on the 3rd July 1997 after we lost our wee Tara and I remember you sitting in the house comforting me and then telling me what you had brought in your car. It was the joy of my life – Sasha.
A wee thing that had been left to wander the streets that came into to our arms and our home within hours.
Sasha gave us much more than we ever gave her, she shared her life to the full with us being a huge part of the family. She new us all and loved us as we loved her. If she had been naughty she could not look at Charles and until he asked her if she was sorry then it was kisses and wagging tail. Robert and Amanda grew up with her and she was as they loved their “wee sister” and loved to spend time with her.
Sasha could read us all like a book especially me, and she new exactly how to manipulate me and when she could get away with it.- yes- getting away with sleeping at the bottom of the bed, waking me up if pretended to be asleep and when it came to feeding half an hours before she was due to be fed then she started to let me know and pestered me until she was fed, if I happen to be out then she would wait patiently for who was in the house until feeding time. She would often decide it was time for Charles to get up and would check on him then come and bark for me to go in the kitchen, walk to the kettle area and bark I would ask her “does daddy want a cup of tea” and she would bark.
Sasha has a special bond with us all and impacted our lives; she made us all better people for sharing her life with us. She new, when I needed a cuddle, would lie beside me and get the cuddles she wanted, loved her walks and going in the car with me.
Sasha gave us comfort and joy throughout her life and all she asked for was to us to love and care for her. It was our privilege to have had her with us she has left a void in our lives that will get easier with time and we still feel her love.
We would like to thank you and Frank – for without you we would not have had the joy of Sasha. Phyllis for looking after her when we were on holiday also Jill and staff at Equipet who saw her through her Addison’s Disease which remained stable throughout the rest of her life and fought for her the day she took ill.
The tears are running again and I know it will get easier, thanks again Ena for letting me be her Mum, she was my
baby and I loved her with all my heart.
Keep up the good work, you give people much more than they realise.

I remember so well the day I introduced Sasha to you and your family, do you remember you had sadly "lost " the first wee girl you adopted from me. You were so sad and I had come round to see how you were all doing. But me being me I had a puppy in the back of the car but I had to see how you were coping without Tara. I had no worries you loved Tara so much and this wee girl so needed someone special to love her and I wasn't wrong Sasha has been loved just as much although thankfully you had Sasha a lot longer,although it is never ever long enough.and thank you so very much for giving her such a wonderful life. x

hello ena,
Sadly on the 27th february 2009 my gran had to let Cindy cross the rainbow bridge. She had a lot wrong with her and to keep her alive my gran would have been injecting her four to five times a day, she just couldn't do that to her. We all miss Cindy so much and she has a very special place in all our hearts and my grans back garden. when Cindy got put to sleep we got to burry her in the back garden so my grandad made this xx

Hi Ena and all at the kennels.
About 14 years ago a lovely shepard named Kye came to stay with us.We came to see him at your house as you did not have the kennels then. We fell in love with him and got to take him home.We had many happy years and fun with him. Sadly,last night it all became to much for him and we had to let him go to rainbow bridge.He was such a lively dog and brought lots of love and happiness into our home. We are all at a loss and will miss him so much.
Thank you for allowing us this privilege and pleasure to have him as part of our family for many years, longer than we hoped. We will miss him dearly.

We got our Sparkey from you in August 2000. Just wanted you to know that we had to put him too sleep on Tuesday. He developed diabetes and subsequentley went blind.On Tuesday his wee body couldnt take any more and the vet advised he be let go. He was a super wee dog with a great character. He originally came from Kippen, you may remember him.

Here is Lucy's photograph as promised. She was 9 years and had the most placid gentle nature youu could find, except when saw little hairy things. Missing her daily.
Fiona when I think about Lucy I always recall the night I went looking for her in the snow. and I don't do driving in the snow !!! She had been lying on her armchair at the radiator in her wee room and I let her out last thing and well the gate wasn't shut properly so of course when I went back out to as( I thought )to get her back in, there was no sign of her, I left the kennels gate open in case she came back, I jumped in the van and went looking for her. Really upset because I couldn't find her, came back into the kennels to phone Frank to tell him, I wouldn't be home. I looked in her room and there she was all curled up sleeping on her chair !!! I was so relieved and that is how I will always remember your special girl. Sleep tight Lucy ( hope you have a nice armchair you loved your comfort ) your folks love and miss you so very much xxxx

Hi,
We've given two of your dogs homes in the past but, sadly, one of them died recently on the 9th March of cancer. Tessa, aged 14, was loving, gentle and laid back. She was great with our other dogs and loved everyone she came across. I still remember the day we picked her, she was so affectionate, quiet and wouldn't stop licking my hand. Just as she was throughout the twelve years we had her. It was a very difficult decision to let our big girl go but we didn't want her to suffer. We all miss her very much. Bobby is aged 16 now and we've had him for fourteen years. He can get a bit confused at times and is a bit unsteady on his feet but is still doing well. I'll send you some pictures when you get back to me.

I am so sorry to hear about Tessa, it's awful when they leave us and leave such a great big hole in our lives and hearts. Did you rehome Bobby and Tessa from the Pet Care Centre next door to us as we have only been open ten years, It makes no difference if you did as I would still have known her and if you send me a photo I will certainly put her on Rainbow Bridge.

Just finally had the courage to send this email about our beloved big boy Paddy who sadly passed away on Friday 16th January after a tragic accident. We came into your kennels just about five years ago on a sunny day in May just for a look at what dogs you had at the kennels with no intentions of taking any away that day. Then we saw a very sad, shaking springer who had come in half an hour earlier, he stole our hearts with his sad brown eyes. Needless to say we left with him that day and from that day and every day after he was our big boy Pads. We had him all his matted hair cut and what a beautiful and stunning boy he was. Every day we miss him but we now can smile and laugh at his comical ways and his love of life.
The greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and be loved in return and our boy gave us that unconditionally.

Hi Ena,
please find attached a couple of photo's of our Jack for your Rainbow Bridge, as my wife said he went to sleep on Friday and we now have a huge void in our life. We have however came to a decision that we are not complete as a family without a Lab in it so we are going to see the parents of a litter that have just been born on Sunday. So we will be starting from the very beginning this time. Little did we know that a chance phone call 10 years ago would have made such an impact on our lives. Thank you (albeit belatedley) for letting us have Jack all those years ago and for now knowing the pleasure and satisfaction that comes with owning a wonderful dog.

Dear Ena
Just a wee note to say that we had to have Charlie "put to sleep" on Friday night. He had a tumour in his liver and lungs and was starting to struggle with the effects of it all.
We want to say a huge "thank you" to you for choosing him for us 8 years ago. We have had such good fun with him and he was a good friend.
I know everyone thinks their dog is the best but he really was. He was such a character and everyone knew him!
We've been meaning to come up to see you for months and never quite got there. Hope you and Frank are keeping well.
When things aren't so raw we'll pop up to see you(not for another dog though).

Hi Ena,
This is a note to let you know George and I have lost wee Floss.
We had to take her to the vet as her backend went,but there was more wrong than we thought.
She wasn't eating,couldn't walk right,and didn't want to do anything.
It was the 26th of January,we had to put her to sleep.
She's left a big hole in our lives,she touched everybody she ever met,she made everyone smile.
She gave George and I a reason to get up every morning.We will never forget her.
We got her over 12 years ago from you at Thornton,we think she was one of best to come from there.
I hope these photos will remind you of her.

Dear Ena,
I have sad news for you, Rocky had a stroke on Thursday and had to be put to sleep.
Rocky and Cassie had become close and she is missing him too, but I think she will be fine given time. We are thankful that we have our wonderful Cassie.
I have attached the last photo of Rocky with Cassie, it was the only one we were able to get as they always went daft when they saw the camera, we were so lucky to get it.

Dear Ena
I am so very sad to have to tell you that Bonnie passed away beside us on the bed this morning. She had taken very ill on Thursday morning and was given injections yesterday - hoping it would help her pick up. But her breathing was very laboured - I felt her breathing start to relax and thought she was calming down, sadly I fell asleep cuddling her and woke with her gone, a week after her 8th birthday. We had her for 3 years, 4 months and 2 days - not long enough. We are very privileged that she allowed us into her life, and can't begin to tell you the love we felt for her, Harvey her doting brother included.
I cannot describe to you the pain Mark, Michael and I are feeling - she was our baby, and we don't know how we are going to cope without her.
She was the best thing that has ever happened to us and brought us so much joy and love I cannot tell you - we are absolutely heartbroken.

Bonnie was one of the Rottie girls who came up from down south, to find the most fantastic home ever, thanks Lesley Mark & Michael for giving Bonnie such a wonderful loving home albeit an all too short time, it doesn't matter how long we have our beloved dogs in our lives it is always too soon to say goodbye.
I remember taking Bonnie over on her home visit and there was a run out in the garden with a rabbit in it and our Bonnie decided she would quite like to say hello jumped up and nearly went through the run enclosure, suffice to say the rabbit quickly became an indoor rabbit in one of the kids bedroom.
Run free at the Bridge Bonnie you were such a special girl.

This lovely girl is Jade, her mum & dad came to the kennels five years ago and fell in love with her, Jade was nine years old when they adopted her, she has spent the last five years being loved and cosseted.Her mum & dad are devastated and miss her so very much.Rest in peace Jade knowing how much you were loved.

It was with great sadness we learned that this lovely lad has gone to the Bridge. We first met Monty's mum when she came to offer him a home all these years ago.Pat and her husband had Oscar an older black lab at the time. Sadly Oscar has also gone so he and Monty will be together again young and fit.
Pat is such a lovely lady that when I called her to say I had a 5 month old golden lab and then a 6 month old chocolate lab she was over like a shot offering them homes, she also took Dougie in who had been left tied to a bus stop and was just a youngster. ( she has a very understanding husband )So Monty had all these lovely friends in his life. You had such a lovely life Monty you couldn't have been more loved or cared for, to say your folks are devastated is an understatement they are heart broken. Go play with Oscar and rest easy you were one very lucky boy having people who adored you as much as you loved them.

Had a call from Linda she has sadly lost her beloved Chip, he is on the left of the photo. He was adopted from us way back before we had the kennels, when I used to work from home. He has had a wonderful life this is him with his sis Misty another Second Chance girl.
Rest in peace Chip in the knowledge you were well loved and will be sorely missed.xx

This is Zack he was adopted seven years ago and has had such a wonderful life. Sadly, Zack has gone to the Bridge due to ill health, way too early at only seven years old. However, he has had all the love in the world and was adored by his owners, something a lot of dogs never get.
Hi there, you wont remember me, myself and my husband bought Zack from you
seven years ago. He looked like a black lab in disguise, (a few
wee white bits) he was hyper when we bought him desperate for attention. I
think him and his brother Dino came in at the same time, but Dino was away
when we got Zack. It was to let you know, the joy that Zack gave us, shall
never be replaced, he was the best dog in the world, and sadly, three
months ago, we had to have him put down as he went blind due to diabetes.
I found your website and I had to email to tell you we had seven great
years with him. If you can reply to my e-mail, I shall send you a nice
photo of him.
