Since it opened in 1999, hundreds of dogs have passed through the kennels doors and have gone on to wonderful new homes and families. On this page you will see some of those lucky dogs in their forever homes, and hear how they've settled in and how they've enriched their new families' lives.

Remember our boy Chance? What a honey he was! He was the boy who had terrible mange, he hardly had any hair on his tail or ears. He had to be isolated and go for regular treatments and baths at the vet, yet he didn't grumble once!

Well, this is him settled into his new home, courtesy of Mhairi photographers (this is what she does when she is on holiday!).

Doesn't he look so good!!

Chase (now Gyp) >>
Posted: 27th August 2006

This is the lovely border collie boy Chase (now called Gyp) getting ready to go home with his new family. He's only been in his home a few days now but he's still found the time to send us a wee message:

Hi Ena,

Well, I wasn't sure about the car but settled better after I jumped in the front at my mummy's knees. I don't like going around roundabouts and I ended up biting my way through my new lead when mummy wasn't looking! She says she still loves me though!

We went for a walk and found a nice tree to widdle at, I got a lot of fuss made about that.

I finally got my brunch and then we've played fetch with my squeeky burger (thanks for that by the way). If my family say ta to me I know to let go of it so they can throw it.

Daddy says he's going to get my bed soon, a new extendable lead and some treats.

I'm laid here playing with some new toys in between having my belly rubbed - oh this is the life, I'm home!

I'll keep in touch, I'll always remember my special friends at Second Chance, I'll get my new mummy to send some photos.

Love Gyp (aka Chase) xx

And his new Mum sent us a message too, to tell us her side of things!

Hi Ena,

Well, Gyp had a good night, he seems to like his bed and only barked once to wake his mummy up at 1.20am!! Well that proves he does have a voice when he wants.

He went out with his dad at 5am for a quick walk and toilet and then he lay on the floor beside my bed until the rest of the house decided to surface.

He was trying to tell me he needed out again but I thought he just wanted a lot of attention and of course he ended up having an accident. Not his fault, it's his mum that needs the training!!

I plan on taking him a walk to Crombie Point later today, that should be plenty of exercise for both of us.

I'll keep you posted.

Diane x

This is Ruby, the lurcher/lab pup, who rehomed a wee while ago. It turns out the man in the family was allergic to dogs and Ruby was returned to the kennels.

Well, it didn't take long for another family to fall in love with her! This is Ruby with her lovely new family, no one allergic to her and the children are a delight!

Mac >>
Posted: 28th July 2006

Some of you may remember Mac, he was the wee jack russell with the big ears that was rehomed from here a few weeks ago. Well, we just got this message from Mac himself to tell us how he has settled in:

Well its been an interesting week. On the first day I was exploring my new play area. I discovered that they had built me a paddling area(very nice too) although Im sure something was nipping at my paws. However Bob soon pulled me out. Whilst I was running madly about trying to get dry I found a biscuit which I decided to bury in the garden but all these green things were in the way. I soon took care of THAT anyway which seemed to get everyone very excited but Im not sure why.

I thought humans were supposed to be intelligent but sometimes I wonder. Its taken me a while to get their training right, but they seem to be learning a bit now. Im missing you all lots but better stay here to look after these people, (they are a bit mixed up about who is the boss). Please come and visit whenever you like though.

All my love
Mac

Paddy, Susie & Pip >>
Posted: 24th July 2006

This lot are Paddy (brown lad at the front, he is the oldest boy about fifteen), he was already in the family when they came along and fell in love with their golden girl Susie, they then came back to let us see how Susie was doing, it was fatal Pip decided he liked them so much he kicked up a right stir when they went home without him, that was the Saturday. The great news is they brought Paddy back on the Sunday to see how he got along with Pip, well we know the rest. And don't they all look so happy together, another happy ending!

This wee guy is Bob, he's gone on to be a Pat Dog now. We are all really proud of him and so is his "Mum":

Hi Ena,

That's us back from another blazing long weekend in Strontian. As you can see from the pics Bob and Ralph had an ace time.

Bob has passed his assessment to be a Pat a Pet - he totally loves old biddies - and being centre of attention. He's such a grand wee dog!
