Happy Hounds

Since it opened in 1999, hundreds of dogs have passed through the kennels doors and have gone on to wonderful new homes and families. On this page you will see some of those lucky dogs in their forever homes, and hear how they've settled in and how they've enriched their new families' lives.

Star >> Posted: 15th July 2012 Well another one I missed, our lovely Star who is a very lucky boy as he landed on all four paws, had Rosemary and Ian not taken him and worked through everything with him as he had a few issues !! I think we still might have had him here. Good news is he and Angel( his partner in crime another shepherd )get on famously. Lucy >> Posted: 13th July 2012 This is me with my mum, and I have a wee brother working cocker ( who is neutered ) so looks like I am going to have a great life. My mum looks like the cat that got the cream doesn't she.love Lucy xx Update for wee Lucy how lovely for her xx Just thought I'd give you an update on the beautiful Lucy. What a wee treasure she is! She's settling in really well already, she's even 'challenging' Cooper to play with her which is fantastic. They share everything nicely, toys, bones etc (all interchangeable) neither of them can see 'green cheese'. They are really enjoying their walks together, we are going at Lucy's pace, when I see her tire a wee bit I take them home. She takes her treats nicely and doesn't try to snatch Cooper's now (although he let her have them). She's had another bath (she rolled in something very smelly at Silverburn), and she was very good with drying and grooming afterwards. Cooper is being very respectful towards her, no 'grumps' from him at all. Lucy has put her paw down though, she doesn't like Cooper going near her bed, but he has got the message and gives it a wide berth! The two of them love their cuddles at night and in the morning in bed with me (but I think I like it more.lol!) I can't thank you both enough for letting me have her. We're taking her for her 2nd lot of jabs on the 26th July, and I'll discuss her spaying with the vet, and go by their advice as to when it should be done, I'll also see about getting her teeth checked and scaled. Her confidence is coming on leaps and bounds, you can see it in her whole demeanour now, she stands tall with her head up, and gives you much more eye contact than before, its amazing in such a short time. Siren >> Posted: 3rd July 2012 Hello Ena, Hope you Frank and all the gang are keeping well. I thought you would like a few photos of Siren just to let you see how he is coming on. As you will notice he is very much at home and enjoys a nice soak in the tub after a long walk and also enjoys a wee read of the paper. Star >> Posted: 3rd July 2012 Hi Ena and Frank Hope everyone is well at Second Chance Kennels. I have sent a couple of photos - one of me in my garden and one in my compound down at Dad's work. I am getting on fine - my tail wags nearly all the time now. I don't bark at the tv so much now and don't freak out every time a bag rustles!!!! I'm still not too happy around other people yet - I'm happiest when I'm at home with the rest of my pack. Mum and Dad don't go anywhere without me - I make sure of that!!! It's been quite warm some days so I just chill out in my compound and cool my paws down in the drinking bowl!!. The nice people who Dad works for have asked a company who make sheds to make me a super duper kennel -so I'm looking forward to that arriving. The lorry drivers all come and talk to me and bring me a biscuit. I let them give me the biscuit then frighten them with my big bark!!! Lol. Mum and Dad are going to bring me up for a visit soon so you can see how I've grown and I'm not skinny anymore! Look forward to seeing you. Sparky >> Posted: 3rd July 2012 Hello Ena, Frank and everyone at Second Chance, Just a few of pics of our boy, one is him waiting for Erin coming in from school (I swear he can tell the time), one sitting with Gordon on the couch having one of his chews, one is him getting his teeth brushed which he loves and last one is him lying in OUR bed having a lazy Sunday morning! ! He is a great dog, loves his walks and nothing more than lying along the back of the couch watching the world go by. He's very protective of the children especially if they walk too far ahead of us he rounds them up! We will always be grateful that you let us give him a home. We will be up at the end of the month with some goodies and we'll bring him with us. I am trying to persuade Gordon to let him have a wee playmate...maybe you can work on him too haha. Dermutt >> Posted: 23rd June 2012 Hi, from being tied up to the gate at the kennels, he now looks amazing and clearly loves his home comforts xx Here I am relaxing after a long walk up the hills in Helmsdale on my recent holiday and again curled up in my favourite position on the couch at home. I get on great with Hector and Loca and spend much of my day playing or sleeping in the garden or garage. Mum and Dad and the rest of the family say I am great. we have ironed out the problems with the cat thing and every other cat for that matter. I come back when called and hardly ever need a lead.
